After I updated to Mavericks OS X, my iMac failed to recognize my tablet. I was unable to use my tablet and got a tiny heart-attack.
The only thing I could do was to sweep the pen all along the surface to get the cursor from one place to another on my screen, it was literally the only function that worked. Dreadful and annoying.
This reminded me of my very first tablet which had this "sweep and go" system too.
My first tablet was a Wacom Volito. I stumbled upon the tablet at a low budget supermarket (Aldi) years ago. Can't even remember when exactly, but I was just starting out with photography and heard tablets were a must for photographers.
I didn't understand a thing of this tablet and that's why I hardly ever used it. I also found sweeping and the tiny surface really annoying. I didn't see how this this device, a tablet, could improve my photography. I stayed loyal to my wireless mouse.
Nowadays I have a Wacom Intuos 4 Large and I can't live without it. I own this tablet for three years now and it completely changed the way I retouch. But it's not until a few months ago that I ditched my mouse. I still used it for non-retouching activities, but it was super annoying having to switch from tablet to mouse and vice versa constantly.
The Volito on top of the Intuos, a little size comparison.
I still have the Volito and keep it save in it's original packaging. Despite that I never liked it and never really used it, I can't part with it. I like to believe that I have it "just in case my Intuos dies"...
My Intuos didn't die during the Mavericks OS X update, by the way. I called Wacom Netherlands and thanks to their support I was able to solve the problem, a driver issue (but I guess you already knew this if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter).
