Maintenance Mode

It's mid February, that's not too late to wish everyone a happy new year, right...? Right?!
Lets just forget that there was this month called 'January' in the first place!

If you've been trying to visit my website recently, then you may have noticed it's currently in Maintenance Mode. I'm doing my best to get it up as soon as possible, meanwhile my portfolio is still available here.

Here's the preview of Phthalocyanine! It's the first shoot photographed in my new studio and because I don't have a proper background system yet, this was shot against a white sheet nailed to the wall... But it worked and I actually really like the feel it gives.

Katja; in memoriam

My best friend these past 15 years and a regular subject in my photography (especially in the early days) was Katja. Was, yes as she passed away last Saturday. On All Souls Day, how peculiar.

I'm heart-broken and miss her dearly. So this blog post is devoted to her, showing what a great model she was!
She wasn't always as easy to photograph, due to her dark black fur coat and inability to sit still for longer than 3 seconds. Still I somehow managed to get a billion photos of her on my iPhone...

Apologies for the weird and different image sizes, snatched these photos from my archive, phones and DeviantART.

The most terrible office manager, but she was great at keeping my lap warm!

... Or my tablet.

When I got to use my own lighting the first time, Katja was my model!

Karima

One of the many goals in life I have is to witness the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) in Mexico. I'm fascinated by this event and would love to be there to see it myself.
Hence why I've been wanting to do a shoot inspired by the gorgeous sugar skulls for a while  -and did  so last year.

So you might remember this face if you've been following me for a while.

This photo could have been part of La Calavera de Karima, but it's not. Again a matter of killing your darlings.

Anyway, about 1 1/2 years after shooting this and with the Day of the Dead in mind, I wanted to try to retouch this image.

I outsourced part of the retouching for La Calavera de Karima, but wanted to do everything myself this time. A task I underestimated...

Obviously, it's far from perfect and I could spend hours more on this image, but then Day of the Dead would be over and I wanted to have this photo online today!
